    The correct answer to all these questions (and many others like them) is yes. Why? The best reason is because Someone bigger than ourselves, God, really does exist. After all, you don\u2019t plug yourself into an electrical outlet each morning to charge up your heart so it will keep on beating. The planets don\u2019t collide into each other; the laws of physics that keep things working didn\u2019t just happen by chance. Your DNA? \u201cInside every cell in you is a three-billion<\/em>-lettered DNA structure that belongs only to you.\u201d* No, you didn\u2019t evolve from a lower life form. You are the result of God-created elements, emotions, and more. And why would you have any sense of right and wrong unless that sense was ultimately placed in you by God?\n\n

    Reality check: Without God in the picture, you wouldn\u2019t be sitting there reading about Him. That\u2019s what this Bible verse means:\n\n

    \u201cYou alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you\u201d (Nehemiah 9:6, New International Version).\n\n

    That\u2019s the real deal. Science can study how things work, but it all began\u2014and keeps on going\u2014because God is real.\n\n

    God also brings meaning and purpose into your life. How? By giving you the opportunity to learn and grow, enjoy life and other people (and pets!), and share His love to those around you. In the end, He\u2019ll thank you personally in heaven.\n\n

    So can you prove God exists? No. But you can look at the evidence<\/em> and make your own decision. If you decide God exists, that affects everything.         I<\/span>t\u2019s OK, Mitch told himself.\u00a0Nobody knows we\u2019re here.\u00a0<\/span>Mitch, Jimmy, and Jimmy\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>younger brother David had\u00a0<\/span>parked their bicycles behind\u00a0<\/span>the school and crossed the\u00a0<\/span>road to a barbed-wire fence.\u00a0<\/span>Now they crawled under and\u00a0<\/span>over the barbs toward their\u00a0<\/span>destination: a gigantic abandoned\u00a0<\/span>sandlot.<\/span><\/p>

        A few months earlier the\u00a0sand company had let Mitch\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Boy Scout troop camp on an\u00a0<\/span>island in an abandoned pit\u00a0<\/span>filled with water. Later Mitch,\u00a0<\/span>Jimmy, and David had\u00a0<\/span>sneaked onto the lot to\u00a0<\/span>fish and explore. They\u00a0<\/span>had wandered through\u00a0<\/span>a cluster of trees to\u00a0<\/span>another pit forming a\u00a0<\/span>shallow rectangular\u00a0<\/span>lake. Beyond it sprawled a\u00a0<\/span>drainage canal. And along\u00a0<\/span>the canal a dirt road led\u00a0<\/span>to who knows where.<\/span><\/p>

        The three boys\u00a0had returned to find\u00a0<\/span>out where. They\u00a0<\/span>stepped between trees and\u00a0<\/span>brush onto the dirt road.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cLook!\u201d Mitch exclaimed.<\/span><\/p>

        The road hugged the edge of\u00a0a gigantic hole large enough to\u00a0<\/span>hold three middle schools and\u00a0<\/span>descended into the bottom of\u00a0<\/span>it. Near the end of the road a\u00a0<\/span>large pool gleamed bright blue.\u00a0<\/span>The sand company hadn\u2019t\u00a0<\/span>scooped out the area behind it.\u00a0<\/span>Like a peninsula the size of a\u00a0<\/span>school cafeteria, it jutted into\u00a0<\/span>the pit. Its brown cliffs of hardpacked\u00a0<\/span>sand plummeted into\u00a0<\/span>the beige bottom. The large\u00a0<\/span>pool lay beside it, with a\u00a0<\/span>smaller pool around the bend\u00a0<\/span>and a trench on the other side.<\/span><\/p>

        The boys took off their running\u00a0shoes and followed the\u00a0<\/span>road down into the pit. Sandy\u00a0<\/span>soil heated the soles of their\u00a0<\/span>feet. Hard-packed khaki-colored\u00a0<\/span>dirt formed the pit\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>sides.<\/span><\/p>

        Mitch pointed to the space\u00a0between the larger and smaller\u00a0<\/span>pools. \u201cSee that big black spot?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>It\u2019s moving.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cWhat do you think it is?\u201d\u00a0Jimmy asked.<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Mitch\u00a0answered, \u201cbut I\u2019m going to\u00a0<\/span>find out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

        DOWN IN THE PIT<\/b><\/p>

        When they reached the bottom\u00a0of the pit, their feet sank\u00a0<\/span>in wet sand. It was the color\u00a0<\/span>and texture of oatmeal mixed\u00a0<\/span>with Cream of Wheat.<\/span><\/p>

        David disappeared behind\u00a0the peninsula in the direction\u00a0<\/span>of the trench. Jimmy sloshed\u00a0<\/span>through the silt to the larger\u00a0<\/span>pool. Mitch ran to the dark\u00a0<\/span>splotch moving across\u00a0<\/span>the sand. It was an inch-deep\u00a0<\/span>stream of . . .<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cCatfish!\u201d Mitch poked\u00a0his fingers into the clear\u00a0<\/span>warm water and pulled\u00a0<\/span>out a fingerling. He studied\u00a0<\/span>the baby catfish a\u00a0<\/span>few seconds before dropping it\u00a0<\/span>back into the shallow water.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cHundreds of \u2019em!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cOver here, too!\u201d Jimmy\u00a0exclaimed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cThey\u2019re swimming from\u00a0<\/span>the big pool to the little pool,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Mitch said.<\/span><\/p>

        He looked down and noticed\u00a0that the wet sand had inched\u00a0<\/span>over the tops of his feet. He\u00a0<\/span>scrunched his toes and continued\u00a0<\/span>watching the fish.<\/span><\/p>

        Minutes passed. The tan-colored\u00a0sand crept to his\u00a0<\/span>ankles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cHey, Jimmy, is there\u00a0<\/span>such a thing as <\/span>slow <\/span>quick<\/span>sand?\u201d he asked, lifting one\u00a0<\/span>leg then another and setting\u00a0<\/span>his feet on the firm sandy surface\u00a0<\/span>inches away.<\/span><\/p>

        Jimmy was digging a hole in\u00a0the side of the peninsula next\u00a0<\/span>to the pool. With both his arms\u00a0<\/span>flailing, he looked like he was\u00a0<\/span>doing the breast stroke. \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0<\/span>digging me a place to sit!\u201d he\u00a0<\/span>hollered.<\/span><\/p>

        A pencil-thin stream of\u00a0sand sifted into the hole\u00a0<\/span>Jimmy was making. Mitch\u00a0<\/span>shrugged and bent down to\u00a0<\/span>play with the catfish.\u00a0<\/span>The fingerlings were fascinating.\u00a0<\/span>Mitch had read about\u00a0<\/span>fish eggs evaporating with\u00a0<\/span>their watery home, airborne to\u00a0<\/span>unlikely places, such as this\u00a0<\/span>pit in an abandoned sandlot.\u00a0<\/span>People had even reported\u00a0<\/span>occasions of fish falling like\u00a0<\/span>rain from the sky.<\/span><\/p>

        Suddenly Jimmy cried out,\u00a0\u201cHelp! Help me!\u201d Mitch turned\u00a0<\/span>and saw Jimmy bent sideways,\u00a0<\/span>buried up to his chin in dirt.\u00a0<\/span>The brittle sandy soil of the\u00a0<\/span>side had collapsed on the hole\u00a0<\/span>and on Jimmy, too. He barely\u00a0<\/span>missed having his head\u00a0<\/span>buried.<\/span><\/p>

        Mitch ran to Jimmy, hollering,\u00a0\u201cDavid, get over here!\u00a0<\/span>Jimmy\u2019s in trouble!\u201d<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cMy foot\u2019s twisted,\u201d said\u00a0Jimmy. \u201cIt hurts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

        Mitch dug with both hands.\u00a0The silt was like wet concrete.\u00a0<\/span>He plunged both hands\u00a0<\/span>beneath the surface and slung\u00a0<\/span>globs of it behind him until he\u00a0<\/span>could see Jimmy\u2019s foot. He\u00a0<\/span>straightened it, then attacked\u00a0<\/span>the mound of dirt threatening\u00a0<\/span>to smother Jimmy.<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cDavid!\u201d Mitch yelled as he\u00a0dug furiously, both hands\u00a0<\/span>slinging dirt behind him.<\/span><\/p>

        Jimmy was sinking fast. The\u00a0ooze had engulfed both his\u00a0<\/span>legs and threatened to swallow\u00a0<\/span>his body. The weight of\u00a0<\/span>the cave-in had swiftly turned\u00a0<\/span>the shifting sand into quicksand.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>It gripped Mitch around\u00a0<\/span>the knees. He had to pull himself\u00a0<\/span>out one leg at a time, setting\u00a0<\/span>his feet on firmer ground,\u00a0<\/span>before he could help Jimmy.<\/span><\/p>

        He dug for minutes that\u00a0seemed like hours. Dirt still\u00a0<\/span>covered Jimmy below his\u00a0<\/span>armpits, and the quicksand\u00a0<\/span>had sucked him halfway\u00a0<\/span>under.<\/span><\/p>

        DESPERATE PULL<\/b><\/p>

        Mitch painfully pulled his\u00a0legs out of the mire to go at it\u00a0<\/span>again. David was nowhere in\u00a0<\/span>sight. Nobody else knew\u00a0<\/span>where they were. Nobody but\u00a0<\/span>God.<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cPlease, Jesus, help us get\u00a0out of this,\u201d Mitch prayed. A\u00a0<\/span>memory text, Psalm 46:1,\u00a0<\/span>filled his mind: \u201cGod is our\u00a0<\/span>refuge and strength, an ever present\u00a0<\/span>help in trouble.\u201d God,\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019m counting on You!<\/span><\/p>

        Immediately Mitch\u00a0glimpsed David a few yards\u00a0<\/span>away. \u201cDavid, Jimmy\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>trapped!\u201d Mitch screamed.\u00a0<\/span>David ran over and started\u00a0<\/span>scooping handfuls of dirt off\u00a0<\/span>his brother\u2019s back. After what\u00a0<\/span>seemed like an eternity, they\u00a0<\/span>uncovered the top half of\u00a0<\/span>Jimmy\u2019s body. But from the\u00a0<\/span>waist down, he was still submerged\u00a0<\/span>in quicksand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

        Mitch\u00a0<\/span>and David seized his arms and\u00a0<\/span>pulled hard.<\/span><\/p>

        \u201cYeeow!\u201d Jimmy yelled.\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019re yanking me in two.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

        While lifting their own legs\u00a0out of the quicksand to keep\u00a0<\/span>from being trapped, Mitch and\u00a0<\/span>David swept it away from\u00a0<\/span>Jimmy\u2019s waist and thighs. Then\u00a0<\/span>they tried pulling him out\u00a0<\/span>again. Grabbing him beneath\u00a0<\/span>his arms, they finally heaved\u00a0<\/span>him out of the quicksand.<\/span><\/p>

        Jimmy stumbled. Mitch and\u00a0David held him up, hoping he\u00a0<\/span>wouldn\u2019t fall and drag them all\u00a0<\/span>into the quicksand. It was\u00a0<\/span>hard, but they carried him\u00a0<\/span>along, struggling to climb out\u00a0<\/span>of the wet sandy bottom to the\u00a0<\/span>road and up out of the pit.<\/span><\/p>

        When Mitch and David felt as\u00a0though they couldn\u2019t take\u00a0<\/span>another step, they reached the\u00a0<\/span>rim and collapsed.<\/span><\/p>

        Gasping for breath, Mitch\u00a0said a silent prayer thanking\u00a0<\/span>God for giving him the strength\u00a0<\/span>and help he needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

        We were foolish. We trespassed\u00a0<\/span>and played with quicksand.\u00a0<\/span>God knew all along\u2014a\u00a0<\/span>good thing, or Jimmy might\u2019ve\u00a0<\/span>been buried alive.<\/span><\/i><\/p>

        It was only right to give\u00a0God credit for their rescue.\u00a0<\/span>Mitch was nervous talking\u00a0<\/span>about God, but he\u2019d already\u00a0<\/span>done enough wrong. He was\u00a0<\/span>ready to do right. \u201cWe should\u00a0<\/span>thank God for getting us out\u00a0<\/span>of that mess,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>

        Jimmy gazed down into the\u00a0pit and let out a deep breath.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cYeah, you\u2019re right,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>

        David nodded.<\/p>

        \u201cGod, we\u2019re sorry for doing\u00a0stuff we knew was wrong,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Mitch prayed out loud. \u201cPlease\u00a0<\/span>forgive us. You didn\u2019t have to\u00a0<\/span>save us, but I\u2019m sure glad You\u00a0<\/span>did.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
